之前的節目,我們談到過北美生活和我們的有所不同,這期節目我們來聊聊北美的boba or milk tea shops(奶茶店)、legal age to drink(法定飲酒年齡),以及在北美為什么人們wear shorts and T-shirts in the winter time(冬天也穿短袖短褲)。
01 Boba or milk tea shops
They even have bubble tea shopsin the college cafe?s 飲品區的奶茶也是留學生的最愛,但它們might not taste good(可能沒有那么好喝),因為它們看起來是那種有“塑料感”的奶茶(the milk teas that have like very artificial colors)。
·artificial/?ɑ?rt??f??(?)l/ adj.
They’re cheaper (價格更便宜) and look very artificial (看起來像是加了很多人工的配料). They don’t taste as good as the ones in China
不過asmore and more Asian people go there(隨著越來越多亞洲人的到來),奶茶店的質量(quality)得到了升級(it’sgetting an upgrade)。Anne說她學校旁邊的奶茶店這兩年就是replaced with a really fancy Asian bubble tea shop(被換成了一家比較高級的奶茶店)。
·quality /?kwɑ?l?ti/ n.
·upgrade /??p?ɡre?d/ v.
不僅僅是亞洲人愛奶茶,the locals(當地人)love it too,經常能看到the locals lining up for bubble tea(排隊等著取奶茶)。
在我們的想象中,外國學生放學可能會hang out at the coffee shops(在咖啡館坐著閑聊)或者social一下。But no! They hang out at the bubble tea shops now!
02 Legal age to drink
在美國,the legal age to drink(喝酒的法定年齡)是21歲,只有年齡達到21歲才可以buy alcohol(買酒精類產品)。Because it’s so late, many teens have their own fake IDs
·alcohol/??lk?h??l/ n.
為了能去喝酒、蹦迪(go to the club),很多學生會order fake IDs in groups(團購假身份證件)。有的假證其實是made poorly(做得很糟糕),甚至本人don’t look like their fake photo(跟證件上的照片不太像)。
那么用假證件的人會get caught(被抓到)嗎?據Erin了解,檢查證件的人往往是not too strict with it(沒有很嚴格)。Especially in college towns (特別是在大學城), it is so common (早就司空見慣了)!
有一次,Anne在美國轉機(transferring at an airport in the United States)時剛滿20歲,正好是喜歡裝酷的年齡,she saw a bar (看到一個吧臺), and she sat down and ordered a drink (坐下來點了一杯)。 Anne一直解釋說自己已經20歲了,可以喝酒了,可是調酒師說:“In the US, you can’t drink until you’re 21 (在美國滿21歲才可以喝酒).”
·transfer/tr?ns?f??r/ v.轉移
·bartender/?bɑ?rtend?r/ n.
·underage/??nd?re?d?/ adj.
當時Anne感覺非常embarrassed(尷尬),而且旁邊的人started laughing so hard(開始爆笑),她只好got up and ran(撒腿就跑)。
·embarrassed/?m?b?r?st/ adj.
03 Wear shorts and T-shirts in the winter time 在冬天也穿短袖短褲
And definitely this one is for Canadians as well (很多加拿大人也是如此).主播Erin就非常喜歡wearing a skirt when out(穿裙子出門),即使it is below freezing(在零下的溫度)。
但是其實很多美國人也會make jokes about people who do that(取笑那些冬天穿得少的人),說他們會have grandma’s knees at a young age(年紀輕輕膝蓋就有毛?。
·constant/?kɑ?nst?nt/ adj.
·exposure/?k?spo???r/ n.
不過也有人說beauty is worth the price(為了美,這個代價是值得的)。
